Construction & Back Pain

SO we are back from our Christmas trip home, I will post some pics and a blog about this at a later time, but we had a great time! Flying was so much better than driving!
Here is a little update on some of the things that went on since the construction started: This is quoted from an email post to some friends earlier today:

In the middle of the jackhammering/ demolition it was my day off to sew, and get christmas gifts done, I had lots to do and was up early working hard even with the jackhammering and dust, and in the middle of it, my back went out AGAIN!
I thought after all that physical therapy I went through this summer, though I had been slacking, had worked,l my back felt better...and then here I was...sewing, bent over to cut some fabric and WHAM, the back was out again!
So there I was, laying on the floor, in terrible pain, with jackhammering going on below me, barely able to get up, the doors and windows ALL have to be open due to dust and CO2 levels in the house, and there was a snowstorm outside, I was freezing wearing a jacket and scarf it was nuts anyway, then for my back to go out, it was terrible!
I had to call josh, yell over the jackhammering that he had to come home, and yelled my DRs phone number for him to call for an appt. I couldnt call myself b/c I couldnt hear! I wasnt even sure when josh was talking it was so loud!
Went to the DR that day, thank goodness, and got some steroids which take the disc swelling down very quickly and I think are the miracle drug for this problem (rather than throwing painkillers at you) and was fairly ok in a matter of 48 hours. then we had to get one a plane the next week to go home for 10 days for Christmas. it was a rough week for me, the construction had to be done b4 we left, there was packing, presents to finish, and me with this back pain.
But, It was a great trip back, and the first time we have flown home (for Christmas) it was WonDeRFul to fly!!! No 22 hour drive on icy, scairy roads! wa hoo! The family was great, new neice 2 weeks old was great, my grandparents looked good again, it really was a good trip! (our trip last year was aweful, I was dreading this trip but it was much better)

Now we are finally back home in Colorado, back to work, reality. Back to the dust! The second week of December we were finally to get our basement floor redone (the concrete needed to be jackhammered out, and repoured). It was terribly cracked and unusable and when its done, it will double the size of our (small) house!!! yay!
My blog has some "in progress" I havent gotten the photos of the final product up yet)hip_threads. livejournal. com
I knew the construction would be bad, and the dust would be bad, but it was REAL bad...I am still cleaning dust, I mean to the point of washing walls, and just one swipe of the rag against the WALL is dust/dirt, so imaine all that landed on the flat surfaces. every inch of the house, even the clothes I pull out of the closet are dusty!

Now we are finally back home in Colorado, back to work, reality. Back to cleaning up all this dust!!! There is even dust on the walls! If I take a rag, and swipe it across the wall, there is LOTS of dust all over it! Imagine what its like on the flat surfaces, on the floor! We are still cleaning, and I suspect we will be for a while.........

I had an MRI on my back today, and go to see an Orthopedist next week. I am glad that we are on the path to something new, with a new Dr and all, but I worry that surgery is my only option. and that scaires the hell out of me! and if I have to do surgery, I dont think I could even function knowing that it was coming up....I am THAT scaired about surgery. I am not a good patient at all, and have never had to stay in a hospital bed myself.
But, I have taken care of patients for years and some very worried and very bad patients; you'd think that would help, but oddly it doenst help at all when it comes to your own body. haha! I dont handle pain well, and get really weepy and nervous....lol. Maybe I wont need it,...I guess we shall see.
